The subtraction of 3-digit numbers without regrouping is explained here with examples.

1. Ron has a stack of 140 sheets of paper in there. He used 40 sheets for his project report. How many leaves are there in the ream?

Solution:

To find out the number of leaves left, we perform a subtraction. To subtract 3-digit numbers, the numbers are written one below the other. When subtracting a 3-digit number, we first subtract the ones digit, then the tens, and finally the hundreds.

So there are 100 pages left with Ron.

2. Subtract 354 from 699.

Solution: Step I: arrange the numbers vertically. Step II: First peel off the units column. 9 – 4 = 5 Step III: Now subtract the tens column. 9 – 5 = 4 Finally, subtract the hundred column. 6 – 3 = 3

So 699 – 354 = 345
