Here we learn to multiply the 3-digit number by the 1-digit number.

In two different types, we learn to multiply a three-digit number by a single-digit number.

1. Multiply 201 by 3

Step I: Arrange the numbers vertically.

Step II: Multiply the number in the ones place by 3.

1 × 3 = 3 ones

Step III: Now multiply the number in the tens place by 3.

0 × 3 = 0 tens

Step IV: Now multiply the digit in the hundreds by 3.

2 × 3 = 6 hundred

Multiply a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number

So 201 × 3 = 603

Multiplication of 3-digit number by 1-digit number with regrouping:

1. Multiply 246 by 4

Step I: Arrange the numbers vertically.

Step II: Multiply the number in the ones place by 4.

6 × 4 = 24 = 2 tens + 4 ones

Write 4 in the units column and transfer 2 to the tens column

Step III: Now multiply the number in the tens place by 4.

4 × 4 = 16 tens

Well, 16 + 2 (transferred) = 18 tens = 1 hundred + 8 tens

Step IV: Now multiply the digit in the hundreds by 4.

2 × 4 = 8 hundred

Well, 8 + 1 (transferred) = 9 hundred

Multiply a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number with regrouping

So 246 × 4 = 984

2. Multiply 453 by 6.

Step I: Arrange the numbers vertically.

Step II: Multiply the number in the ones place by 6.

6 × 3 = 18 = 1 tens + 8 ones

Write 8 in the units column and transfer 1 to the tens column

Step III: Now multiply the number in the tens place by 6.

6 × 5 = 30 tens

Well, 30 + 1 (transferred) = 31 tens = 3 hundred + 1 tens

Write 1 in the tens column and transfer 3 in the hundreds column.

Step IV: Now multiply the digit in the hundreds by 6.

6 × 4 = 24 hundred

Well, 24 + 3 (transferred) = 27 hundreds = 2 thousands and 7 hundreds.

Write 7 in the tens and 2 in the thousands.

Multiply the 3-digit number by a 1-digit number with regrouping

So 453 × 6 = 2718
